A video! Shocking, I know. Here I made it one of my new year’s goals to vlog more and what do I do - not vlog more. oops. But hopefully this is getting me back on track. And I am learning I have a lot to learn about vlogging. So bare with me on some of these more rudimentary videos. LOL.
Anyway, as I mentioned, several readers have been asking me lately about how I get the scarves I wear to tie the way they do or how I get them to lay right. Well, I figured a video was in order to demonstrate some of the more basic scarf techniques I use.
Outfit 26 of 30:
I’m feeling a little artsy in this get-up. Maybe it is the all black ensemble with the pop of pink, but this is a classic Katy outfit. Forget all this need to add and work with tons of color. I love the basics of black paired with something that really pops. To achieve that ‘pop’ I opted for the bold pink scarf (who’s ready for summer?) and then the cut little hair flowers clipped to my lapel instead of into my hair.
This is totally going to be an often repeated outfit as the weather warms up a little bit. I figure if I change the scarf or accent piece each time it will look a little different while still keeping the great all-black base.
Tip: When finding a item to make an outfit pop make sure that piece compliments your coloring. If not, the pop will stand-out in the wrong way. (For instance if I wore a bright yellow scarf here I would look half-dead.)

I have to say I was a little arrogant before watching this video, I though I knew every way to tie a scarf. But… you really enlightened me on a few new twists! I will definitely be trying a couple of these out! Thank you so much for the tutorial and I look forward to the square scarf one as well!!

i’m so glad you did this. i swear to you just the other day i was getting dressed and i remembered and old photo of this funky scarf thing you did and i wished i knew how to do it to.
on the other hand, your voice didn’t carry very well. even with headphones on you were really soft. PROJECT! *she said in a really dramatic artsy fartsy voice*
Thanks Cate - I was filming this in my room and I was a little afraid my neighbor could hear so I didn’t want to be shouting. But I totally talked in a loud whisper instead of a normal voice. I’ll need to work on that!
Cute cute! So true about the coloring. Love this look on you.

I really like that philosophy too. Just add a really great pop of color, and your golden. In this outfit you look chic, and put together.

Loving the pink scarf.
I’m going to have to try these! Early this week I did a “frustrations with scarf-tying” post that referenced several good video resources. I wish I’d had this one, too! If I have good luck with them, perhaps I’ll have to do an update!

Anne - hope the video helps you. Scarves can be tricky, but I swear once you get the hang of it you will be experimenting and coming up with new ties all on your own.
cool video! and love that the scarf you lighten up your black clothes!
I love the scarves you’ve been using to accessorize lately! I’m really ready for summer too.

Wow! I never realized you could do so many different things with just one scarf! I don’t care about fashion that much in the first place, but I must say these are very easy and quick tricks to learn.
