SchoolHouse Swap recap

by katyrose on December 5, 2011

After all the planning, time and effort that went into the SchoolHouse Swap in Chicago it was over in the blink of an eye. (Later in the week I’ll try to do a post on how to plan one of these events in case you want to put your own together.) Overall I would say it was a success. The concept is pretty new to the Chicagoland area, so the turn out was smaller than I expected to see after going to so many great Boston events. But at the end many people asked if I’ll plan another in the Spring, so hopefully that means they left satisfied and excited for a repeat.

We had a ton of clothes, thanks to the fact that many people dropped off items at the school throughout the week, even if they didn’t plan to attend the swap! So the tables were over-filled allowing the 100-something attendees to pick through at their leisure, well after the initial crazed grabbing fest. All the leftover items were sent to Goodwill and Heather’s House.

The vendors, who helped fill the time between dropping off clothing and the opening of the doors to the swap, were all excellent! Special thanks to Bamboo Blue, Stella & Dot, Alice J Design, Empty Canvas Art and Design and Design BCB. I scored a great purple beanie from Design BCB and my mom grabbed an adorable plaid purse from Alice J Design.

And to top it all off - I met a handful of great Chicago (and one Milwaukee) bloggers and am so grateful for their support. Hopefully you all managed to get some great items.

In terms of clothing - I went more simple and relaxed than I usually do for these events in Boston, and man am I glad I did! Running around the school back and forth between the swap room and the vendor room and classrooms, I needed the comfort of jeans and a great pair of heeled boots that don’t kill after hours of walking. (The pic below is of myself and Gina - the teacher at the Willows who helped me plan and pull off this event! She’s the best!)

Jeans: Tall Girl
Shirt: H&M
Vest: Forver21
Scarf: mall vendor
Boots: Gianni Bini from Macy’s
Headband: borrowed from my sister
Earrings: Claire’s

It was fun-thanks for putting it together! I’m going to post my recap from the swap later today. OK if I grab the group pic for the post (and link back here of course)?

100+ attendees for your first swap is great Katy!!! sounds like it was a success, i love how everything was arranged on the tables! and nice banner with your blog name on it, clever way to promote! ;)
I had meant to email you back because I actually knew of a few Chicago fashion bloggers - even if she didn’t attend, I highly recommend you check out Curly In The City - her name is Taylor, she’s awesome, and she also makes her own clutches and sells them on Etsy!

Looks like there was some great stuff there (and the location of the swap is really nice too). I love that you’re spreading the swap concept to new places!

Will have to transfer motor mount pads from the Charger to the AMC, may have to weld the pads to the frame if bolt holes don’t line up .Also will have to swap the brain box to make the HEI distributor work for the 318, unless you have a points type distributor and coil handy for a small block Mopar.

Wow Katy,
Well done. I would love to have guidelines on how to organise a swap when you get a chance. :)
