For this week’s FBFF post we are looking at the uniform - you know, the outfit combination you reach for when you don’t want to think too much, when you are in a hurry, the one you feel most comfortable and most like you when wearing. We all have this, blogger or not. For some it is a great pair of denim and a simple t-shirt. For others it is a pencil skirt and pair of pumps. Some might love whimsical dresses. The key is taking that uniform and finding ways to re-invent the look so you are fresh looking even when you are in your uniform 7 days a week.
Andrea of the Blonde Bedhead:
I love wearing different styles like bohemian and even on occasion, something more feminine and whimsical, but my go-to style is a laidback look with denim and leather, no matter the season.
When in a pinch for time or I simply want to be comfortable and feel confident, I rely on my typical style. This usually comprises of a tee in a shade of grey or with stripes, a leather jacket, jeans or cutoffs and a pair of leather booties with a pair of Raybans.
I actually feel incredibly uncomfortable when I’m dressed up. When I’m a bridesmaid in a wedding and my hair is done and my make up is done, I just feel too pulled together and I’ve come to accept and even prefer a more disheveled look. Anything too polished makes me feel uncomfortable, but my hair hanging down, unwashed for four days with jeans and a leather jacket, I just feel good!
The balance of wearing what you feel best in and taking risks and having fun is always interesting when documenting and sharing on a blog. It’s tricky. You don’t want to bore people by being predictable, but you sure in the hell aren’t going to change who you are and what you like to wear.
What’s your style theme?
Kimberlee of I Have A Degree in This:

Although I hated wearing uniforms in Catholic school, I have carried on the tradition into adulthood. It’s good to have a “capsule” wardrobe or a basic canvas to work from. We touched on this topic in 2011 for FBFF and my uniform hasn’t changed much since (except investing in better quality). I’ve always chosen comfort over style. I don’t think you have to sacrifice style to be comfortable. Above is a typical outfit for me. I’ve been living in boyfriend jeans the past year or so because they are amazingly comfortable. I always have and always will be a tomboy so some formula of jeans & a t-shirt work for me. Works in the summer and the winter (perhaps with more layers).
Me:
Like Kimberlee, I might be a little too partial to dressed-up boyfriend denim, but my true uniform is a basic dress. I realized that was the case the other day as I was traveling back from California. While most people tend to wear jeans or yoga pants on a plane, I was all about the maxi dress. The generic cotton dresses - knee length or floor length - are what I reach for nine times out of ten, whether I have somewhere to go or I’m just staying home and spending a day in front of my computer.
To me, I like the laid back comfort of these dresses, but still love to rock a very feminine style. A great maxi dress can be more comfortable than the best pair of boyfriend denim and it tends to look classier too. And the best part is you can find fairly inexpensive dresses all over the place now - Target, H&M, Forever21, TJ Maxx. They are everywhere.

I think it’s easiest to find your uniform when you know what shapes and textures flatter - I need structure so it goes like this - Skinny Jeans, T Shirt, Blazer. It’s super simple, and the blazer gives the whole outfit structure. Swapping my cardigans for blazers many years ago was the best decision I ever made and now I have a closet full of them. After a blazer the shoe doesn’t even matter. I can wear an converse high top just as easily as a patent leather pump and decide where the outfit needs to go that way.
Love, love, love this outfit. Like you, I prefer comfort but I also love style. Goes to show that a little accessorizing goes a long way from a “normal” and “comfortable” everyday look.
