I just got the lab results back from the YorkTest Laboratories Food & Drink Scan Premium and man, was it eye-opening. The at-home test determines food and drink intolerance by analyzing your unique reaction to 208 foods, drinks and ingredients. The test, which was developed alongside nutritional therapists, is completed through quick and painless finger-prick blood test.

Before I get into the results, let me give you a little background…
I’ve had massive migraines since high school. Over the years, I have tried a number of different medicines, remedies, and diets. None of them have worked. I have a headache every day, which varies in intensity from a dull throbbing ache to a pounding can’t-get-out-of-bed pain. I’ve been able to identify a few triggers: humidity, drastic changes in temperature, mushrooms, wine, bacon, lack of sleep, dehydration. But knowing those hasn’t eliminated the migraines entirely.

Two years ago, I went to see a pain specialist and he recommended having blood work done to check for allergies and food intolerance. I agreed, but the results ended up being super wonky. Prior to the test I had been on a liquid diet for 6 months thanks to a locked jaw, which skewed the results. At that time the test came back saying I was pretty much intolerant to everything - lettuce, bananas, beef, rice, kale, dairy, pepper, grapes, apples… the list goes on and on. I scoffed a little and honestly paid little attention.
But my migraines have been pretty intense since February, so a friend suggested I do the test again. (Especially now that I am back to eating normally.) And that’s when the YorkTest fell into my lap.

The test is super simple. A kit is mailed to your house. You prick your finger with the lancet provided and collect a small blood sample on the provided wands. The wands then go into a small plastic container and everything gets shipped back to the company. A couple weeks go by and you are emailed the results. Plus, you can also take advantage of a 30-minute phone consultation with one of the YorkTest nutritional therapists. The call is meant to help you figure out how to adjust your diet to the findings.
The food intolerance test showed I’m highly intolerant to eggs, cow’s milk, yeast, wheat, goat’s milk and sesame seeds.
Eek! The results were a little overwhelming considering this is most of what I eat in a normal day. I used to have two eggs and some veggies or fruit for breakfast. Plus, cheese is pretty much my favorite snack. And let’s not even talk about my love for beer!

I’m excited to give it a try and see how I feel in a month. And yes, it will be painful to cut these things out of my diet. In all the migraine diets I’ve been on over the years, I have never eliminated all of these things at the same time. Maybe that was the issue.
The test costs $270, which is a pretty penny. But I will say it is hundreds less than the last test I got done. The YorkTest even looked at a few more items than the one the pain specialist had me take. Plus, the 30-minute consultation with the nutritionist is a nice added bonus. It gives you peace of mind as you adjust to a new diet without certain foods you were used to.
This is a sponsored post. I was provided the test in order to share my honest results about the process. All opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting companies that make ModlyChic possible!
