For some reason I have a lot of winter memories from years gone by.
There is the time it snowed an insane amount when I lived in New York City and my friends and I decided it made perfect sense to hop the commuter train, get off in some random town and find a hill to sled down on black trash bags. Awesome. Insane. Memory-filled.
Or the time I lived in Boston and a couple friends and I packed up and went to Stowe for a long weekend. We spent the days skiing and the evenings exploring local brew pubs, which is not at all a bad way to spend a couple days.
Or there are the countless times as a child when my siblings, our best friends and I would bundle up from head-to-toe and spend hours upon hours going down the huge hill behind our house. We’d jump on two, three, four at a time on sleds, saucers, toboggans and anything else we could find. Although, it might be the fashion of those days that was the most memorable. Brightly colored jackets with equally huge and thick gloves. I came a little after the Freezy Freakies, but I certainly got the fashionable remnants of those awesome gloves that changed colors in the cold temps.
Last year, my winter snow memory was less fun and more adult, unfortunately. When the snow dumped on us, on Superbowl Sunday, I spent the evening and part of the next day trying to dig a path out of the alley so my little car could make its way to the main, mostly plowed road. It was a lesson mostly in discouragement and defeat. (And we won’t even talk about the moving truck that tried to make it down the street, which lead to a poor handful of guys missing the entire Superbowl as they worked to dig it out of the snowbank it ended up in. Ouch!
While Throwback Thursday memories are plentiful, now as an adult the winter also means worrying about keeping my skin hydrated. 2015 has truly become the year in which I focused on hydrating, in all aspects. I worked hard at repairing my damaged hair through the Curly Girl Method, and I also have begun taking my skin’s hydration seriously. It took awhile, but I’ve got a routine now. One that involves the use of Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Lotion at night before bed and then a quick spritz of the spray-on version the following morning before dressing for the day.
The Vaseline products have quickly become my go-to when it comes to caring for my skin. Why? Well, Intensive Care Advanced Repair Lotion contains healing micro-droplets of Vaseline Jelly, which really helps to heal dry skin. It’s actually clinically proven to heal very dry skin in 5 days. Plus, it retails for only $4.99 at most major retailers, making it an economical part of my daily skincare routine.
What’s your #TBT Winter memory? Did you ever wear Freezy Freakies as a kid? Vaseline sent me a pair, which I am really looking forward to wearing once the temperatures actually go down to normal winter levels and the snow begins to fall. (This December weather has been the strangest winter ever.)
