Four Ways to Winterize Your Little Black Dress

Everyone has their favorite little black dress, tucked away in the closet for whenever the time is right. It is a wardrobe staple and, while simple, is such a lifesaver when it comes to hitting up cocktail parties and just enjoying an above-casual evening. Sure, you know how to strut your stuff in the dress during the spring and summer months, but what are you suppose to do come winter? You don’t want to be one of the overly eager college girls who walk down the street in 10 degree weather while wearing nothing but the dress. You also don’t want to just give up fashion and hop into snow pants and a puffy coat. So how do you slip into your dress and rock the evening with your little black dress? Here are a few fantastic fashion options for you to still look as good as ever, even if the temp has dipped.

Four Way to Winterize Your Little Black Dress :

White Tights, Booties and Blazer

The entire purpose of the little black dress is to help show off your femininity and look good in the crowd. Well, if you decide to winterize your outfit with black leggings, black boots and a black blazer, you could look more like Johnny Cash than a female rock star. You need some color contrast. So, by slipping into white tights with white boots and a white leather blazer, you’ll fit the part. Plus, the snow around you is likely no longer white (but instead all gray and slushy), so the white helps you pop while the black dress still defines your figure.

Boots and a Scarf

So maybe the temp isn’t terrible, but you still feel your skin goose bumping whenever you step out. When that’s the case, you just need a bit of help. A thicker scarf helps lock in the heat around your chest, which keeps you feeling warmer. The books can cover up a bit more of your leg which can help as well (plus you can wear heavier socks and nobody will know the difference). Complete with the best hair extensions you just had put in, you’ll be the queen of the evening, no matter where you go.

Thigh-High Socks and High Boots

Tights aren’t for everyone. Maybe you love the look of your skin against the black dress. I can’t blame you for that. There’s just something about the look of bare legs against the edges of a black dress. So what are you suppose to do to stay warm? Slip on some thigh-high socks and cover these up with high boots. It is alright if the socks peek out over the top of the boots. It just adds another interest element that works for your advantage. Best of all, outside of a dark blue, you can pretty much wear any color of thigh-highs you want. You’ll feel as if you’re wearing comfortable, warm pants with this getup.

Fitted Sweater with Popped Out Collar

Does your little black dress have a collar? First of all, that’s adorable and you found a winning dress. With this look, slide on a fitted sweater and pop the collar out over the sweater (don’t pop it up - you’re not a preppy frat boy). This unifies the dress and sweater.

There is just nothing like a beautiful, fashion forward, little black dress. Of course, it can seem tricky to wear the dress during the winter months. That is exactly why you need to take advantage of one of these outfit options. You’ll look great no matter where you go and no matter what the temperature is outside.
