Since the cold season began I have been wanting to add a fur vest to my wardrobe and dreaming up the ways it could be mixed and matched to create all sorts of outfits. How to wear a fur vest is a little more than just throwing it on like you would a jean jacket. Now that I have a fur vest heading my way in the mail, I’m sifting through all the inspiration my fellow bloggers provide to come up with the ways I’m going to wear this trend.
How To Wear A Fur Vest - 8 Styles to Try:
Casual Wear - Pair it with a simple pair of relaxed or even distressed jeans. Go with a simple, solid colored top and some booties. I’m especially loving how Rachel Sayumi pulls this look off with a cropped vest.
Monochromatic - Pull together a look all in the same color. Think perhaps all black or all brown, as your base. Then add a contrasting vest on top of that to make it stand out and really pop with the over all look. If you are feeling especially bold go with a complimentary pop of color in the form of a hat like Style Elixir or even a scarf.
Contrasting Colors - Use a single-colored vest and pair that with a bold and contrasting color. This won’t work in the same way if the vest is already a couple different colors. Add a very basic, color neutral to the bottom to make the vest and top really stand out, just like One Small Blonde does.
Go Preppy - A fur vest is not usually what one thinks of when considering a preppy look. But it can work really well to give a little edge to that style. Consider pairing a class solid-colored pleated skirt with a patterned top and a vest over the top to pull it all together. I love the way The Sweetest Thing pulls this whole look together. I would steal the entire look!
Keep it Neutral - When in doubt, putting an outfit together with a neutral palette is often an easy go-to look, especially when you might not have the brain power to think of something else early in the morning. The traditional neutrals - black, white, gray, brown - can easily be paired together. Check out the way The Law of Fashion pulls off this look.
Belted - Often these fur vest have the unfortunate side effect of making us look a little shapeless. Which isn’t such a horrible thing in the really cold weather, but sometimes we want to feel a little more feminine. Adding a belt over the top of the vest can create the appearance of a waist, like this look by Upbeat Soles.
Accent Pants - Take the usual go-to black top, add a vest over the top but then use your pants or shirt to provide a bold accent to the overall look. Pick a color that works well with the color family your vest is part of and keep all your other accessories and additions simple and straightforward. Wendy’s Lookbook nails this look.
Dress It Up - Forget the pants, which seem to be the usual pairing for a fur vest. Instead opt for a really classic and simple dress. The vest addition can be a great accent to an otherwise basic dress. I’m more than a little obsessed with the way Memorandum pulls off this style.
