Polka Dots and Teal Accents

This past weekend, the class that I have taught for the last two years graduated. At my school the graduation is more than a typical cap and gown ceremony. Instead of that, everyone gets really dressed up since the day culminates with a fancy gala event. The dads are very often in tuxedos while the moms are in cocktail dresses.

Dress: Macy’s
Shoes: Michael Kors from ShopBop
Shawl: gift from a friend from India
Earrings: New York & Co.

For the teachers, it’s always a fine line between what to wear to the afternoon graduation that will translate well into the evening gala. While some people change clothes in between the two events, I try to find a dress that will work for both so I don’t have to worry about a mid-day wardrobe change in some random bathroom on my way from one event to another. To meet that goal I went with this polka dot dress, which I grabbed last summer for my cousin’s wedding. I paired that with a simple pair of black pumps, that aren’t too high so I don’t dwarf anyone with my height in heels.

But the look needed something more. I added the teal polka dot scarf as a shawl to add a pop of color and make me look less dead since I also had a migraine that day and basically got up just to attend the festivities before crawling back into bed.

For the graduation I left my hair down as it normally is during the school days, and then I pulled it back with a little braid and a side gathering. It made the transition well from day to evening, without needing to spend an hour doing my hair.

Oh man I am sorry you plagued with a migrane on such a special day. Your look sure didn’t reveal that you were in pain. LOVE. You are beauty.
