Spooky Treats - Sixlets Jack-o-Latern Cupcakes

It’s October and that means my favorite holiday is just around the corner - HALLOWEEN. Yes, I fully acknowledge it’s odd to have Halloween as my favorite holiday. Sorry, not sorry. Every year I experiment with new treats and desserts for the big day. So this weekend I got to work making a large Jack-o-Latern with individual cupcakes.

The how on this one is super simple. Here’s what I did:

Make small cupcakes in the flavor of your choice. (I went with chocolate, because that always seems to be a crowd favorite.)

Mix in a few sixlets to the cake batter. (Fair warning, they do tend to sink to the bottom of the cupcakes so make sure to grease the cupcake pan really well and be delicate when removing the cupcakes from the tin.)

After the cupcakes are baked, cooled and removed from the pan, smear frosting of your choice over the tops of each cupcake. (Again I went with chocolate, because… chocolate.)

Pour orange Sixlets into a bowl and then one at a time gently dip the frosted end of the cupcake into the bowl and then place immediately on the serving platter. As you go keep shaping the cupcakes into a pumpkin shape.

For the mouth and eyes you can use black Sixlets and for the stem green Sixlets. For my eyes, I used Celebration by SweetWorks black gumballs instead. To me that made them stand out more.

Place the Jack-o-Latern cupcake collection on the table and sprinkle other treats all around.

      I would want to get it all because it all looks great. I absolutely love candies. I like their sixlets in red and all of the other rainbow colors. Love all of the decorative sprinkles too.

      I’d have to go with the Googlie Eyes gumballs. I’m not the most artistic person, and when I get stuck making Halloween treats for homeroom, a couple of eyeballs on a cupcake is about the limit of my cake decorating skills!

      I would use a tall glass decanter and layer it with the Halloween Mix Gumballs, Spooky Eyes Gumballs and Black & Orange Gumballs for a centerpiece for our dining room table.
