adidas and World’s Ocean Day

More and more, I have been working on being more aware of the way I use natural resources, as well as the way I can cut down on harming Mother Earth. Earlier in the year, I wrote a post for Earth Day about 30 simple things you can do to reduce the harm you have on the earth. These are all things I’m working on myself as well.

So, while this is front and center in my mind… I was thrilled to see that adidas recently launched a new line with the same focus. The new Parley line is the company’s attempt to improve sustainability efforts. The new line in conjunction with Parley for the Oceans, an environmental organization that addresses environmental threats towards the oceans, uses plastic from the oceans to create sustainable footwear and apparel. How cool is that?

Just to give you an idea of the harm plastics have on the ocean, check out these stats from earthday.org: Every day roughly 8 million pieces of plastic pollution enter our oceans. There are five massive patches of plastic in the oceans around the world, including one between California and Hawaii that is the size of Texas! By 2020, the amount of plastic in the ocean will likely to increase tenfold. By 2050, there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish (by weight). Many marine organisms can’t tell the difference between plastic and food. Those that eat plastic often starve because they can’t digest the plastic and it fills their stomachs, preventing them from eating real food.

I don’t have any of the Parley pieces yet, but I look forward to getting my hands on some the next time I’m in need of workout clothes. I love how they are blue in color and immediately give off that fresh ocean vibe.

Psst… World’s Ocean Day is June 8th. Consider what you can do to reduce plastic in your life and save our oceans.

This is a sponsored post with adidas. All opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting companies that make ModlyChic possible.
