I am a firm believer that the clothing you put on your body, the way you do your makeup and style your hair can make you feel like a million bucks. And, it can also do the opposite. Often when I’m feeling sick or down, I’ll challenge myself to get a little more dressed up and that manages to change my whole approach to the day. You can do the same. The truth is, you can feel confident in your own skin without making any drastic changes; you just need to use fashion to your advantage. Whether you’re rocking a new floral dress or you’re stepping out in awe-inspiring accessories, there are so many ways to feel self-assured and amazing.
Find Unique, Stand-Out Pieces
When you are experimenting with your style, you need to find items that suit your personality and body type. DO NOT just go with what looks good on someone else or what is trending. You can learn more online about different fashion trends and get inspired by the clothing you see on the internet. Look at styles that will suit your frame, height, hair color, skin color and character, whether you’re a fan of frilly dresses or keen to try out a romper, you are bound to find a whole host of ensembles that make you feel amazing.
Go with pieces that are uniquely you and that make you feel good when you put them on. Avoid pieces that you are uncomfortable in, things you find yourself constantly adjusting while in the fitting room, and things that someone else says looks good but you aren’t convinced about. I always tell people when I take them shopping, ‘if you don’t love it do not buy it.’
Go Bold with Color that Flatters
If you have been scared of color for your whole life, then now is your chance to really step outside the box. There is nothing wrong with monochrome, neutral outfits, but they won’t always give you the confidence you’re looking for. Inject a pop of color into your look by using a bright bag or bold hair accessory. You don’t have to go over the top with a new all bright wardrobe, but you can make the most of color trends on the market at the moment.
Also, consider the colors that flatter your skin tone and hair color. Are you someone who looks better in yellow-based colors or blue-based colors. Whether you love a color or not, you are going to feel the most confident in a color that compliments your natural tones. For me, for instance, that is cobalt blue or bright magenta. I know when I wear those colors I will get compliments from others and no one will ask if I am tired. On the other hand, when I wear lime green or yellow, I am often asked if I didn’t sleep well or have a headache. It’s all about the color.
Try a New Hair or Make Up Style
As you glide into summer, it can be a great time to think about how you can change your hair and makeup looks to suit your style. Your hair and makeup choices have the ability to make or break an outfit, so spend some time trying out something new. If you don’t feel comfortable doing your own makeup, get a friend on board with you and use their techniques to inspire you, or head to a makeup counter and ask the experts for advice. Hair can also be a tricky task to tackle, especially when you have been accustomed to the same styles for a while now. Head to your hairdresser and see if they can give you any styling tips and you will soon have a dreamy ‘do that people are jealous of!
As long as you are willing to give something new a try, you will always feel on top of the world. Of course you want to feel comfortable in whatever style you choose, but you also want to feel fashionable too. Finding that happy medium can be easily achieved, as long as you are willing to experiment with something new. With summer well and truly underway, you deserve to look and feel your best no matter what. Give these ideas a try and watch how it works wonders for your self-esteem.
