How To Wear the Fall Plaid Dress Trend

One of my favorite trends this fall is the simple plaid dress. Last year it was all about the plaid tops, and this year that trend has moved very significantly into dresses. And while it might seem like this is a trend that can’t be worn in too many different ways given the pattern, that’s just not the case. There is a lot of versatility in the way these dresses can be styled and even in the shape and look of the dresses themselves.

Below is a collection of pics from some of my favorite bloggers who are rocking this fall plaid dress trend to offer a little inspiration on how you can pull this look off too. And the best part? There is something for every body shape and personal style.

Mixing patterns with your shoes, via Fluerdille. Of course I’m a sucker for all things leopard print so these shoes combined with the blue and red plaid dress is something I adore. It’s an unexpected combination but it works.

Layered over a blouse or turtleneck, via A Southern Drawl. A plaid shift like this can easily be worn both over and under other clothing items to give the same dress very different looks. Love how this was layered over a turtleneck and paired with a great pair of over-the-knee boots.

Paired with a fur vest, via Southern Curls and Pearls. Love a good looking fur vest, so combining that during the colder months with a simple plaid dress can be a great option. And honestly, I just love how the boots, the felt hat and the vest all work so perfectly to create this chic fall look.

Plaid and pearl, via Kelly in the City. Take a super simple plaid dress and then dress it up with a collection of beautiful, classy looking accessories - like this pearl necklace and bracelet as well as the stunning other components of the arm party she’s got going on. It’s laid back meets lady like pieces.

Plaid with a pop of unexpected color, via Sapphire Diaries. Love how the colors in this look are very neutral, and then bam you get that bold red purse to add an interesting element to the overall look and take the outfit up a notch.

Keeping it simple in plaid, via Pretty in the Pines. Love how this dress doesn’t need a lot of extras or adornments to look stunning. No necklace, no layered vest or jacket. Just the dress and a pair of coordinating booties. Simple and still stunning.

Plaid and a little military style, via Sazan. I’m a serious sucker for all things military style and all things hunter green, so this jacket layered over a plaid dress is a winning look in my books.

Keeping it in the color family, via Just Dandy. Take a plaid dress that has a unique color combination and then match up those colors for all the outfit extras needed to create a complete look. Love this orange and brown plaid dress paired with the perfectly matched brown boots, brown purse, brown hat, etc…

Mix pattern plaid, via Publicist in Pearls. I’ve seen this dress, and similar ones cropping up more and more frequently lately. The first time I saw it I wasn’t sure what I thought of it, but I LOVE this look here! Isn’t it so fun with the mixed plaid patterns?
