I can remember a time when I was very much against ever wearing navy and black together - it looked like a bruise. I was equally against black and brown. But then, those color combinations began hitting the shelves and using a variety of colors to create an outfit became popular. Suddenly, I was rethinking my dislike for these two colors when worn together and experimenting with them in my own outfit choices.
Through the years as I discover my own sense of style, my own personal likes and dislikes, my own kind of flair, I’ve tried to break through some of the fashion misconceptions I’ve created. And while I’m not ready to start wearing turtlenecks (I hate those) and jean overalls, I’m trying to overcome previous personal thoughts on color and pattern combinations.
This outfit is one way I’m breaking my prejudice against combining certain things. The tuxedo-style pants are a gray/green color. The tunic top is an interesting pattern with colors of brown, maroon, and mustard. The boots and jacket are black leather. Black, brown, gray, green, mustard - a combination of all of those was something I would never have worn a few years ago.
Do you have any ideas about fashion that you’ve held for years that you think might need to be updated?
Do you have fashion misconceptions that need to be reconsidered?

I think your outfit looks great! I used to think I couldn’t wear boyfriend jeans and chino style pants because I’m hourglass/pearshaped, and before that I used to think I couldn’t wear skinnies. Now I wear all three styles and feel happy about it. I have a “thing” when it comes to wearing black with bright colors - I really don’t like it, and I think I should try to overcome that.
