You know all those great New Year goals about getting in shape, losing weight, running a faster mile, etc… Those are awesome. But in the process don’t forget your skin needs to be looked after too. In fact, if you are like me and increasing your time spent weekly in the gym, you know your skin is often what takes the worst beating. Getting into a skin routine is just as crucial as getting into a gym routine! Combine the two and you are making healthy, positive changes that you’ll be thankful for in the months and years to come.
Personally, I started taking my skincare regime seriously this past summer. Before that I didn’t pay much attention to the products I used or what I put my face through. As a result, my face was prone to random breakouts and in general it just looked tired. After a summer of concentrated effort on my skin, I went back to work and was told but multiple people that was skin was glowing, that the summer must have treated me well. Little did they know, it was establishing a simple and easy to follow skincare routine that took my skin from lackluster to glowing.
Fast forward a couple months and for the first time in years I’ve started wearing less makeup on a daily basis because my skin just doesn’t need the extra camouflage. The first morning I went out with only eyeliner, mascara, a little blush and a lipstick, I thought for sure people were going to tell me I looked tired. But in fact, the opposite happened. And every day after that for the last several weeks I’ve kept my makeup super simple - 4 products and nothing else. And not once have I been told I look tired or like I’m fighting a migraine. That has more to do with my skin than any miracle makeup I’m using.
Wondering what I’m doing to get great looking skin? It’s a simple three-step process I use each evening before going to bed. (I do this in the evening instead of the morning, because my morning routine is usually done at the gym and I try to keep things to a minimal there, so I can get in a few more minutes of cardio.)
Step One: With warm water I wash my face using the Olay Daily Facials. I was first introduced to these 5-in-1 cleansing cloths in the summer. (You can read all about my love for them here.) Since then I have purchased several additional packages because they are the easiest way to get my face clean. Plus, everything you need - including the soap - is included on these cloths. This makes it so easy to throw these in my bag for a weekend trip or when I’m heading to the gym.
Step Two: Using a small dollop of the Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream I massage this all over my face and neck. A little goes a long way, so a bottle will last you a month or two depending on how frequently you use it and how much you apply. This is also one of only a few facial creams I’ve tried over the years that doesn’t cause my combination skin to break out. I’ve been using this product pretty consistently since June, and can really tell the difference when considered over a long period of time.
Step Three: This is the newest addition to my skincare regime. With one pump of the Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum, I smooth this into my skin, especially along the cheeks, forehead and neck. This serum seriously makes my face feel silky smooth. Plus it is meant to soften fine lines and wrinkles - something else I just started actually caring about in the last year. And it is fragrance free, so no need to worry about wearing something you don’t love the smell of.

Because of my lifestyle, my routine is by necessity simple. I had ‘care for your skin’ drummed into me from an early age, and my mother was a horror for sunscreen (it was the 80’s, when coconut oil was King, so you get the idea).
My routine is super-simple: of an evening, I wash with warm water and (homemade) soap, then apply a cheap Vitamin E moisturiser. Mornings, it’s a baby wipe (unfragranced), the same moisturiser and sunscreen. Always sunscreen - even in the middle of winter.
