Vegan Green Leather

One of my favorite perpetual fall trends is the emergence of vegan leather options. These fashion jackets now come in so many different colors and styles. You can find them on the cheap at Forever 21 and higher quality ones from boutiques and department stores.

This green vegan leather jacket is one I purchased several years ago, but it is still a personal favorite. There’s so much to love about it - the cropped style, the exposed zippers, the comfortable feel, the length of the sleeves, how well it travels when packed in a suitcase, etc… Even with all of this my favorite part is the fun fall color. There is way too much gray, brown and black going around this time of the year. I love to add an unexpected, but still totally seasonally appropriate color to a drab outfit. To me, it completes the whole look giving it a more polished finish than a black jacket would have done. The next one I buy will look something like this totally adorable Oxblood Vegan Leather Jacket from Fillmore.

Did you know it is actually really easy to get wrinkles and creases out of vegan leather? Obviously the idea of ironing leather - whether real or fake - is cringe-worthy, at best. But often times, especially at the beginning of the season, vegan leather jackets (dresses, skirts, etc…) are filled with creases from packing. These creases, when unintentional, often can work to make you sloppy. But no worries. Turn the clothing item inside out and steam it! Don’t spend a long time steaming out the creases, but enough to make them more subtle. Pull the material slightly as you steam in order to work out all the bumps. Don’t have a steamer? No problem. You can also iron it. Set your iron to the lowest heat setting, place a 100% cotton cloth (pillow case, towel) on top of the vegan leather and then iron on top of the cotton. It will work out the creases without damaging the vegan leather. Both techniques work like a charm, although I prefer the steaming method as I find it faster. Pretty cool, huh?

Tip: Adding vegan leather to your wardrobe is an economical and environmental way to work the ‘leather everything’ trend into your closet.
