I am wearing a sweater for the first time this season, and while I wouldn’t mind a couple more weeks of warm days and nights, I’m also excited for everything that comes with the fall season - pumpkin coffees, colorful leaves, cozy sweaters, blanket scarves, bonfires, etc… And I realized that fall is the fashion season I most enjoy. The 2018 Fall fashion trends are certainly something to get excited about.
My 5 Favorite 2018 Fall Fashion Trends:
Animal Print
Admittedly, I have worn animal print in the fall season for the last 10 years, or so. But this year the safari is out in full force! And my favorite print of all - leopard - seems to be suddenly everywhere, from booties to coats and everything in between.

To pull off this trend try to find an animal print that is in your color palette and try not to wear the funky pattern on your biggest part in order not to make it look larger. (That means for you pear-shaped ladies, go with animal print up top. If you are apple, try for the print on the bottom and a solid up top.)
Booties
They have been everywhere for the last several years - this is true. But this year, not only are booties big, but specifically white booties are EVERYWHERE! I snagged a pair at the beginning of the summer season that I will be wearing all year long. And I actually grabbed another pair of white wedge booties in the ShopBop sale this week.
It’s a bold trend and breaks a lot of ‘tradition’ fashion no-nos’ such as the color of your shoes should always be darker than the hem of your pants/skirt. (HA Who made up that rule anyway?) If you aren’t feeling super confident about wearing this trend, experiment first wearing them under a pair of longer pants. Once you are used to that look, try pairing them with something that will feature the bootie a little more prominently - such as a dress or skirt.
Jewel Tones
Personally, I’m a hug fan of jewel tones, probably because they tend to look good with my skin color and my blonde hair. Bonus that this is a big trend right now. From mules to sweaters and everything in between, fashion pieces are being made in classic jewel tones like sapphire, emerald, ruby, etc… They are such rich colors and the perfect colorful addition to what can often be a boring cold-weather palette. I’m looking forward to mixing in these pieces throughout the season to bring a little more color and life to the blacks and grays I tend to wear.
Belted Purse
To me, this is the modern much more trendy remake of the fanny pack! These cute purses that also double as belts are so functional while also being fashionable. After all, how many times have you gone somewhere and wished you didn’t have to lug around your purse? Now you don’t have to because it is strapped to your waist.
To be honest, I haven’t snagged one of these yet, but I do have my eyes on a couple different options.
Uneven Skirts
You know I’m a BIG fan of dresses and skirts. I wear those, all year long, WAY more than I ever wear pants. This season the skirt is getting a funky makeover. Instead of even hemlines, and consistent patterns/materials, skirts are looking a little jumbled. (And I’m not hating that.) A lot of the hemlimes jump from high to low often in an inconsistent way, as opposed to the clear high-low lines from a couple seasons ago. Other designers are mixing patterns and colors right on the skirt to create a fun visual effect.
Other trends that are big this season: PLAID everything, Bomber Jackets in all sorts of colors and patterns, Statement earrings, and Grey denim.
Looking to add some classic pieces to your cold-weather wardrobe? ShopBop’s annual sale is going on right now! You can take 20% off orders under $500, and 25% off orders of $500 or more by using the code: STOCKUP18. The sale runs through 9/29.
