Six Ways to Style a Summer Scarf

Personally, I’m a big fan of scarves year round. For the winter months a thick blanket scarf adds warmth and a touch of style. In the summer that scarf can add an element of interest or color to an outfit. Since swing dresses are my new go-to, I’ve been experimenting with different ways to wear a scarf with the same swing dress. Here are 6 ways to style a summer scarf with the same dress.

Six Way to Style a Summer Scarf:

#1:: Hanging Low

Taking the scarf and just running it along the back of the neck so both ends fall long in the front, is probably the simplest way to pair a dress and scarf. It requires no intricate ties or knots. Put it around the back of the neck and go. For an added element of interest you could knot each of the ends.

#2:: Classic Drape

The standard, pretty classic scarf style is one that wraps all the way around the neck once. You can wear it this way and let the ends hang down a little or knot the ends together and create more of an infinity-style. To pull this look off, I’ve found it works best when you are a little sloppy with the draping and don’t work on perfecting the look.

#3:: As a Wrap

This look is great for those buildings that are blasting the air conditioning or for evenings that get a little chilly. Depending on the cut of the scarf you can either drape it around your shoulders long ways or fold it in half, like I did, and drape the ends around your shoulder. You can either leave it over your shoulders with the ends hanging loose, or tie it together in the front to keep the scarf in place.

#4:: As a belt.

If you’ve paid attention to fashion this season, there are a lot of dresses out there with a tie element near the waist. Often that style looks like you have a scarf or a shirt wrapped around the waist. You can create that same look with a square scarf like this.

#5:: Long infinity scarf

This look is super simple. Tie the ends of the scarf together in a tight knot, with very little tail. Slip the loop over your neck and then adjust so the scarf falls the way you want it to. If your scarf is long enough, you can also wrap it around your neck twice.

#6:: Artful knotting.

This might be one of my favorite ways to wear a scarf. I like the asymmetrical look and the way that slight adjustments can make the whole thing look different. For this look I knotted the scarf in a square knot with longer ends and then twisted the scarf so the knot sits just below my collar bone.

Am I missing a style? How do you wear a scarf in the summer months?

In case you were wondering… The dress, which I have in multiple colors, is from Amazon. The scarf was gifted to me a couple years ago, so I am not sure where it came from. The booties are from ModCloth. The sunnies are from MVMT.

    Y’know, I have never thought of scarves in summer. I’m wearing one right now (wrapped around the outside of the neck my hoodie, as I sit in my office (I am also wearing yoga pants under jeans, a tshirt, a flannel shirt, 3 pairs of socks, uggs and 2 pairs of fingerless gloves - contemplating finding a beanie), and it’s lightweight enough for summer too, but I never thought of using it then…
