As I sit down to write this post about the 5 Spring 2019 Trends to try, it’s 21* out and snowing. Oh Chicago! While it feels like the warmer weather will never arrive, I know it 6 weeks or so it will be blooming flowers and budding trees. And if you peruse the store windows and fashion magazines you know Spring trends are all the rage.
PS. If you want to get a jump start on some of the Spring shopping, ShopBop is having its annual pre-Spring sale.
5 Spring 2019 Trends to Try Now:
#1:: Wide-leg Cropped Denim
We’ve been seeing cropped denim for a couple years now, so it was time for that look to get an modern upgrade. Instead of the skinny or straight legs we’ve been seeing, pants have been moving steadily toward a wide-leg, including cropped pants and denim. Most of the pieces are meant to hit around the bottom of your calf muscle, so take that into consideration when shopping.
#2:: Yellow and Orange
Admittedly, these are difficult colors to wear for many people. Personally, I look like I haven’t slept in days when I wear either of these. But, that doesn’t mean you need to leave this trend behind. Consider grabbing a yellow or orange bottom instead of a top in order to keep the unflattering color away from your face while still being on-trend. I’ve gone with a fun pair of burnt orange patterned pants to work this trend into my wardrobe (like the ones pictures below). Another option would be to incorporate this color into your rotation of accessories - a pair of shoes, a handbag, some statement earrings.
#3:: Blazers
These pretties aren’t just for work anymore. In fact, the classic black blazer isn’t making a comeback, but rather her more outgoing cousins - filled with colors and patterns and cropped sleeves. Most of these are longer in style, falling to the beginning of your legs, rather than a shorter style. I’m personally loving the blazers in bright pink or lilac, as well as the ones in bold florals.
#4:: Mixed Patterns
Yes, we have been personally pattern mixing for awhile now, but this new trend has the the mixing already done for you. Designers are combining patterns as part of the items vary makeup, and some of them are bolder than any pattern mix you’ve probably attempted on your own. We’ve been seeing this slowly creeping in for awhile now, but it will certainly be a staple this Spring.
#5:: Dad Sneakers
Full disclosure… this is the trend I’m having the hardest time getting behind this season. I’m just not sure I can rock the dad sneakers when in my head sneakers are meant for the gym and long runs outside. But they are EVERYWHERE now. We’re talking the clunky looking, thick soled, sneakers that your dad might have worn when you were growing up. They began as just white sneakers, but the trend has now expanded to all sorts of colors and styles. I think I’ll try out the more subtle versions before launching into the chunky ones. Plus, I’m not sure this trend has staying power beyond this year.
